Admissions Process: Entering Wellington School

Year 7 and Year 9 Entry
Admissions into Years 7 and 9 involve an assessment process designed to be as much about the whole child as about exam results.
Applicants for Year 7 attend an Assessment Day in January, while Year 9 candidates are assessed in February. On the day, all pupils complete online assessments in literacy, numeracy, and reasoning. Year 9 candidates also sit a short written paper in a subject of their choice.
Before attending, all applicants must submit a short “About Me” piece — 100 words for Year 7 or 300 words for Year 9. This gives the school a sense of the pupil’s interests, values, and character beyond the academic scores.
Around half of the Year 7 intake moves up from Wellington’s own Prep School, while the rest come from up to 50 local primary schools. Year 9 typically sees a further intake of 25 to 30 pupils.
