At Hampstead Fine Arts College, the school offers a myriad of enriching opportunities beyond the classroom. While there are no after-school choirs or orchestral ensembles, students have the option to take instrument or singing lessons as an additional pursuit. The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) is also encouraged, providing students with the opportunity to hone their performance skills.

Gallery and museum visits are integral to the curriculum, complementing learning experiences and inspiring creativity. For instance, a graphics class visited the V&A Museum, inspiring students to translate classical sculpture into commercial outcomes, from vintage clothes to comic books.

The school’s art studio remains open until 6 pm every evening, welcoming students to explore their creativity further. Life-drawing classes, open to all, provide a platform for artistic expression outside regular class hours. Additionally, international study trips expose students to the rich art treasures of Europe, broadening their cultural horizons.

In terms of sports, while competitive sport may not be the primary focus, weekly football and basketball sessions are available for students who wish to participate. The school cultivates a ‘have a go’ attitude, prioritising participation and personal growth over winning. Despite space constraints on-site, sports like football and netball are integrated into the timetable during GCSE years, ensuring a well-rounded educational experience for all students.

Admissions Process: Entering Hampstead Fine Arts College

At Hampstead Fine Arts College, the admissions process is meticulously curated to ensure that every student admitted embodies the institution’s commitment to excellence and artistic flair. Prior to being offered a place, all prospective students undergo a thorough interview process conducted by the principal and head of the college. This personal interaction allows the college to gauge each student’s passion, potential, and suitability for the programme.

For those seeking entry into Year 10, approximately 30 coveted places are available. Similarly, for sixth form entry in Year 12, the college offers around 90 positions annually. Additionally, sixth form applicants are required to submit a reference from their previous school, adding depth to their application.

Interviewing typically commences in early October, providing ample opportunity for aspiring students to showcase their talents and aspirations. However, the college also recognises that exceptional candidates may emerge throughout the academic year, and thus, mid-year admissions are occasionally facilitated.

Furthermore, for those interested in the one-year portfolio course post A-levels, admission is granted based on a combination of interview performance and portfolio assessment. This ensures that students entering this specialised programme possess not only artistic aptitude but also the drive to excel in their creative pursuits.

Fine arts college is one of a kind and incredible. As a student here, I have been taught by some incredible teachers including the head, Emmy who especially ignites a passion in all of her students. Studying at FAC was the most amazing opportunities of my life, I couldn’t have even conceived of the amount of memories that I have created in this environment that caters towards making everyone feel as if they have a special individual place here. The students are warm and welcoming and the teachers are hospitable and take care of your every need. Candy is a remarkable woman who works incredibly hard to cultivate a warm, welcoming and exciting environment and fine arts is a legacy that continues to flourish.

If you want a true description of this school ask someone who is a parent, (like me 😉 and not someone who couldn’t get their child in for some reason.. (as you can see the comment below annoyed me as it comes from someone who obviously doesn’t know the school. it is Simply the best! Not enough words to describe this school. They care about each and every aspect of your child’s development. Good and interesting teaching, preparation for university (lots of people go to Oxford/Cambridge, caurtauld – each to their own choice). Give your child a warm second home and widen their horizons (mine does Spanish, photography and history of Art for A levels). Candy (the headmistress) is caring, clever and knowledgeable in how to run a school.
Your child will get out of there prepared for the university and having friends for life. What else can a parent want..one last thing – I am not English and not Christian and like me there are people from all over the globe and religions in this school which (a fact that I love). This gave my daughter even more of wide horizons and interesting friends.
