There is a total of 200 available places at the school. Approximately half of the year 12 intake currently comes from the school’s own senior school, with an expectation of more joining as the co-educational programme continues to grow (with boys being integrated since year 7 in 2017). The remaining students come from various independent schools, including local institutions like Sancton Wood, Heritage, Landmark International, CIS, The Leys, and St Mary’s, as well as from farther afield, such as St Christopher’s Letchworth, Bishop’s Stortford College, Wisbech Grammar, Culford, and Ipswich High. It’s worth noting that the Stephen Perse work ethic may come as a surprise to new arrivals.

All students are required to take a cognitive ability test, and if they meet the entry requirements, they are then invited for a general interview. Additionally, a school report and reference are necessary. To receive an offer of a place, students must have a minimum of 50 points in their eight best GCSE subjects, with at least a grade 7 in the subjects they intend to study in the sixth form. For those interested in pursuing further maths or modern languages at A level or higher-level maths or modern languages in the IB program, they must undergo an aptitude test in the respective subject, followed by a discussion with the head of the department.
