The teaching methods employed here are far from conventional – they are designed to spark curiosity, cultivate critical thinking, and kindle a genuine passion for learning. One notable example is the ingenious approach of the math teacher, who presents new topics by placing questions on the board, prompting students to embrace their innate initiative and decipher solutions through thoughtful exploration. This technique not only engages the girls but also fosters independent problem-solving skills, preparing them for the challenges of the modern world.

Here at Roedean, students are not confined to their desks but are actively engaged in deciphering problems through words and actions. The teacher’s emphasis on interactive learning resonated profoundly, with students readily offering feedback on the exercise. The dedication to varied teaching styles is evident, as many educators possess drama training from institutions like RADA, infusing a creative flair into their pedagogical repertoire.

Roedean’s commitment to holistic education is strikingly evident in the Head, Heart, and Hands curriculum for younger students. This innovative approach introduces them to a diverse array of subjects, from philosophy to self-defense, British Sign Language to farm club. As students progress, the school continues to challenge them with unique opportunities, such as independent research projects in the sixth form. The concept of flip learning is embraced, encouraging students to prepare for lessons in advance and fostering a sense of informed curiosity.

The school’s growth is undeniable, yet it maintains a dedication to preserving the quality of education. While some concerns about class sizes have been voiced, Roedean asserts that class sizes have, in fact, decreased in recent years, bolstered by an increase in staff numbers. The focus remains on providing a nurturing environment where students can thrive academically, emotionally, and socially.

Roedean School unequivocally declares that education is more than the sum of academic achievements. While commendable A-level and GCSE results underscore the institution’s prowess, the emphasis goes beyond grades. Subjects like mathematics and sciences consistently yield exceptional results, while disciplines like economics and politics continue to captivate students’ interest. The integration of components from the International Baccalaureate (IB) programme, including the theory of knowledge and community service, enriches the educational experience further.

I looked at the Roedean School again in April 2013 because I arrange you as a summer school through Edulingo Sprachreisen. My impression on site was very good. The grounds are spacious and the school buildings are regularly updated. The students live in neat (mostly) single rooms. The extensive sports fields with a direct view of the sea are really impressive and I can well imagine that the students have a lot of fun in the summer. The other equipment of the Roedean School also leaves nothing to be desired. Swimming pool, sports center, dance studio, art studio – everything is there and everything is in good condition. Really nice college and highly recommended for a summer study trip to England.
