Admissions Process: Entering Leighton Park School
The admissions process at Leighton Park School is comprehensive and tailored to each stage of entry.
Year 7 entry is typically in January preceding the desired intake year, applicants undergo online entrance tests in English comprehension and maths. Additionally, they participate in a creative writing exercise and an interview. With around 130 applicants vying for 48 places, competition is stiff.
For entry at 13+, assessment days are held the previous November. Around 35 applicants compete for 15-20 places, although it’s important to note that Leighton Park may not be the first choice for all families.
At the sixth form level, approximately 20-30 places become available, with around four applicants for each spot. Assessments take place in November of Year 11. The entry criterion includes achieving five GCSEs at grade 6 or above, though certain subjects may require higher grades, such as grade 7 for maths and physics. An interview is also part of the process.
For international students, Year 11 serves as a ‘pre-sixth’ year. Second-language speakers undergo an English as an Additional Language (EAL) test.

My brothers and I all attended Leighton Park. It was not a wholly wonderful experience, and I was a lazy student, preferring to enjoy the park land the school was in, the sport and the friendships. But I met some incredible teachers, was touched by the Quaker ethic, and believe that the school gave me an important foundation on which my life has grown and developed. What I am particularly amazed by is the close friendships that formed at the school and which I still enjoy and value to this day.
My daughter attended Leighton Park From Year 8 to Year 11. She had an absolutely fantastic experience, and they gave her the most fantastic support with her dyslexia. She came as a young person with incredibly low self esteem due to her additional needs but left with enormous confidence, pride and 7 level 9 GCSEs, 2 level 8s an A* and a distinction* in a BTEC. She is now studying 4 A levels at college and is on a program to apply for Oxbridge and is seriously considering a career in politics. None of this would have been possible without the care and attention She received at LP.
Their Individual Learning Centre where help is given to students with specific learning difficulties is top notch.
Even more important than the qualifications is the sense of community and responsibility that my daughter learnt whilst there.
All of the teachers genuinely care.
We were so grateful when Covid hit, with how swiftly they put in to action on the line learning . She was Year 10 and taught every day.
